Business Tip: How We Save the Cost of an Entire Employee by Using This One Thing

3-13-how-we-save-the-cost-of-employee

This is a secret we have kept under our hat for a couple of years now. But, I have decided to let the cat out of the bag and tell you how we have saved the cost of having an entire full-time employee…..it’s by automating our systems.

How do we do that? We use an elegant piece of software called Infusionsoft. Infusionsoft saves us a lot of work like calling to update credit cards, calling for renewals, sending Minute reminder emails, reminding us of tasks to be done for each individual client . . . . We don’t have to do that anymore because Infusionsoft does it all for us … on auto pilot.

If you would like to see for yourself if Infusionsoft can work for your business, click here for a free demo.

George Washington – You’re Quite A Character

This is the month where we all think about, and pay homage to, how our great country started, and about all our Founding Father’s did to make it such a great place to live. It is because of their courage and sacrifices that we can work hard to make our own way, and open up our own businesses! Let’s say “Thanks” with a great inspirational story about our country’s  first Father! Written by Steve Allen.

George Washington – You’re Quite A Character

When someone remarks:  “Tom, you’re quite a character,” it can be good or not so good. That phrase falls under the 10th usage of the word ‘character’ in the Webster’s Dictionary. Used that way it conveys to the mind that such a person is one who attracts attention because he is different.

George Washington did attract attention because he WAS different. In addition, George Washington was a “man of character.”  Meaning he had moral strength. Most of his strengths were developed by him because of his self control. He worked at becoming a man of character.

In his youth, George recognized that he had several shortcomings or character flaws. For example, he had a troublesome temper. He learned early on that his temper could control him or he could control his temper. He made the conscious decision that he would control his temper.

He was determined to take control of his character in many other ways as well. He was extraordinarily successful in this project for control of the attributes of his disposition and personality.

As I was attempting to write this article, I decided to list a few of the distinguishing character traits demonstrated by the Father of Our Country. Here are a few I jotted down randomly: Honest, humble, patient, resourceful, loyal, courteous, brave, intelligent, determined, reverent, open-minded, decisive, civil, courageous, committed, trustworthy, modest, clean, obedient to authority, and he possessed an overwhelming sense of rectitude, morality and goodness. And that’s just my short list!

Thomas Jefferson said of Washington: “Perhaps the strongest feature in his character was prudence, never acting until every circumstance, every condition, was maturely weighed, refraining if he saw a doubt, but, when once decided, going through with his purpose, whatever obstacles opposed. His integrity was most pure, his justice the most inflexible I have ever known, no motives of interest or consanguinity (blood relationship), of friendship or hatred being able to bias his decision. He was, indeed, in every sense of the words, a wise, good, and a great man.”

I am going to break with my usual disinclination to recommend books (other than “Founding Fathers–Uncommon Heroes,” by Steven W. Allen) and tell you that you should acquire and read “Being George Washington” by Glenn Beck, 2011.

“Being George Washington” is a marvelous book telling and teaching you how George became such a model of excellence. And it accomplishes this through amazing accounts of George’s life–not through preaching, chastisement, or sermonizing–but by gentleness and with new information. It’s not difficult to read and it is quite enjoyable.

Get it, read it, enjoy it, and you’ll soon be on your way to improving your own character.||

Is it Time for a Small Business Rescue?

3-13-is-it-time-for-business-rescueIt’s really surprising how many Small Business Rescues we have completed in the last few months.
We are finding more and more business owners who need to be “rescued.”

Is this you?

Click HERE to find out what a rescue is, and if you need one for your company.

When we “rescue” a company, we are essentially setting up the foundational documents and that
are needed to build a strong company; documents such as: Operating Agreement (for an LLC) or
Bylaws (for a Corporation), Organizational Meeting and Company Summary, Exhibits identifying
managers and/or officers, and initial capital contributions.  A rescue also includes a company
minute book, company seal, company stock certificates and transfer ledger.

Recently, Aubrey and I just completed a rescue for a client who had SIX companies that each
needed attention. What a blast! I don’t know about you, but at our office we LOVE to organize
and get company documents in ship shape. I guess that is why we do what we do! It becomes a
little more complicated with that many companies to handle (some were LLCs, others were
Incorporated). We had fun creating the spreadsheets to manage them all.

The great thing about a rescue is that when it’s done, it’s DONE! The foundational documents
don’t have to be created again. BUT, the ongoing minutes and meetings must now be kept.

So, take a look at your company documents… and your company minute book. How strong is your
foundation? Is it time for a Rescue?

Easy Fruit Pizza

Easy Fruit Pizza

1 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened

1 8 oz. container whipped topping

1/2 c. powdered sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

Sugar cookie crust

Bake a large sugar cookie crust on a pizza pan or baking sheet, using your favorite sugar cookie recipe (or use a refrigerated dough to make life really easy). Allow to cool.

Combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar and whipped topping using a mixer. Add vanilla. Spread topping on cooled sugar cookie crust.

Top with your favorite fruit. Cut into slices and share with friends.

Fruit ideas: strawberries, peaches, bananas, mandarin oranges, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, apples, grapes, kiwi, pineapple.

Chef’s Note:

A fruit pizza makes a colorful dessert that is perfect for spring. I made this recipe last spring with a party of  8 girls (age 10). They had a blast decorating their cookie pizzas in teams and then devouring them.

For a more elegant presentation: serve the topping on individual sugar cookies and allow your guests to add the fruit toppings of their choice!

Add hot sauce to taste.

That’s it! Now put it in the fridge and give it time to thicken up.

This is the easiest dressing to make…just throw all the ingredients into the blender and Voila!

It’s delicious served on salad, but can also be used as a marinade for fish or chicken.

LLC Veil Pierced Due to Lack of Minutes

Here is yet another case law study where an LLC owner lost their veil protection because of lack of minutes. We are sad to see these cases and we know that small business owners just need to KNOW that minutes are important and how easy it is to keep up with the required documents!

That’s why we are on a crusade to educate and assist small business owners with company minutes and meetings. Such an easy thing that could save so much money, time, and loss of assets!

Click here to read the law study about the LLC veil being pierced.

Note this is a very “legal” type read by Attorney Richard Keyt (whom we highly recommend), but it is worth it to know the information so the same thing won’t happen to you.

Need a Logo for Your Company?

3-13-48-hours-logoLast month we reviewed a website called Fiverr.com where you could get a logo for just five bucks. (If you missed the review about fiverr.com, Read it here.)

We found another site called 48hourslogo.com that seemed to have higher quality logos created for less than $100. They have a great concept where many designers compete for your business….you tell them what you are looking for, then watch the design options come in.

Then you can rank the designs and suggest any changes to the designers. You have a limited time to decide on your favorite logo (I chose 7 days for my contest)  and declare a winner.

This is actually a fun way to get many design concepts and we found that we liked many of the designs that were presented! Here were just a handful of our favorites:

And here is the one we chose as the winner:

So if you are in the market for a great logo, give 48 Hours Logo a try: Click here to check out the site and read more about them.

*Note: if you purchase from one of our links above, we may receive a couple of dollars for referring you.

Fiverr.com . . . Is It Worth It?

At a recent business conference, we heard about a website called fiverr.com, where you can find all sorts of help for just five dollars. So we decided to check it out and pass our research on to you.

Our first task: find someone who could provide a video introduction for our future videos. There were many to sift through, but I found one that looked promising and I hired him. Then I waited.

I received this video back within 24 hours:

Check out the video here…and comment below to let us know if you LIKE it or HATE it!!

We want to hear from you:

Have you ever used fiverr.com? Were you satisfied? Would you recommend them to other business owners?
Our second task: find someone who can provide a professional looking logo for just $5 in a reasonable amount of time.

Foolproof Mini Chocolate Souffles with Sauce

Foolproof Mini Chocolate Souffles with Sauce

½ cup sugar + 4 teaspoons for coating

8 squares (8 ounces semisweet chocolate)

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup heavy cream

Place an oven rack in the middle position and preheat the oven to 400°.  Lightly rub four individual soufflé dishes with butter.  Put 1 teaspoon sugar in each dish, and tilt the dish so that the buttered surfaces are covered with sugar.  Use more sugar if necessary.  Set aside.

Melt the chocolate in a heavy frying pan over very low heat, stirring constantly.  When the chocolate is almost melted, turn off the heat and set aside to cool.  The heat of the pan will melt the remaining chocolate.

Separate the eggs, putting the whites into a medium metal or ceramic bowl with no traces of grease, and the yolks in another medium bowl.  Set the yolks aside.

Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer just until they form stiff peaks.  Do not over beat.  Set aside.

Add the ½ cup sugar and vanilla to the yolks and beat with an electric mixer or a whisk for about 1 minute, or until thick and light yellow.

Add half the melted chocolate to the beaten yolk mixture.  Set aside the rest of the chocolate for making the sauce.  Stir the chocolate mixture thoroughly.  Add the beaten egg whites and fold them together gently with a rubber spatula, turning the mixture over repeatedly until no white is showing.

Pour the mixture evenly among the four prepared soufflé dishes.  Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the mini soufflés have risen and are beginning to brown.  Remove from the oven.

To Make the Sauce: While the mini soufflé are baking, add the cream to the reserved melted chocolate and stir thoroughly to incorporate, Ir the chocolate is too firm, heat it for about 1 minutes over very low heat, stirring constantly, until it softens enough to combine with the cream.

Unlike most souffles, which must be served as soon as they come out of the oven, these mini souffles can wait to be served for up to 30 minutes. Their tops will fall a little, but no one will notice because, just before serving, you make an incision in the top of each one with a knife, and then spoon in about 2 tablespoons of the warm chocolate sauce. If the souffle hasn’t fully cooked, no one will notice, because of the added sauce. Store leftovers, covered, in the refrigerator.

Chef’s Note:

This recipe may look intimidating, but it is rather simple, with just a few ingredients.

Tip:

To help get the soufflé dishes out of the oven easily, bake them on a cookie sheet and then simply lift the cookie sheet out of the oven.
